The Wrong Table

Rain hammered the roadside diner windows as a leather-vested biker slammed his palm on the counter. Across the aisle a camouflaged soldier sat perfectly still, his stare cold with exhausted patience.

"Take your damn dog and get out," Derek snarled, leaning in close with hot breath and open contempt. The Belgian Malinois stepped forward in its tactical harness, eyes locked and utterly unblinking.

Words Like Knives

"This ain't your base, this is our house," the biker spat, smirking as his crew watched closely. The soldier rose slow and controlled, his voice cutting like ice through the thick diner heat.

Derek laughed ugly and loud, taunting cruelly, "What's the matter, soldier boy, dog got your tongue?" The soldier's reply was pure ice: "No, he's not threatening you at all, he's warning you."

The Patch That Froze Him

Derek reached toward the animal as a single command — "Hold" — sliced the stale diner air. The Malinois froze instantly, muscles coiled, silent and waiting for the next lethal tactical order.

From the back booth another nervous biker hissed urgently, "Derek, look at the patch now." His eyes dropped to the American flag and silver wings, realizing this was no ordinary patrol dog at all.

Too Late To Run

Outside headlights cut through the rain as an armored vehicle rolled heavy into the cold lot. Derek breathed as his swagger collapsed into sudden pale sheer fear: what the hell is that?

The soldier never even glanced at the window, his answer quiet, steady and brutally final. "That's the reason you should've walked away," he said as another voice behind cracked, "too late."
