The Car That Wouldn't Stop

The black sedan roared forward instead of braking, scattering airmen across the dusty tarmac in sheer panic. Only Sarah stood perfectly still as it crossed the white safety line at full speed.

At the final heartbeat it swerved violently and slammed to a stop inches from Admiral Hale. The rear window slid down to reveal a wounded lieutenant slumped against the glass, blood soaking his shoulder.

Blood and Accusations

“Colonel Hale, do not let him touch that anchor,” the injured man gasped, eyes locked on Sarah. Admiral Hale recoiled sharply as Sarah recognized him from flight security, a man supposedly evacuated an hour earlier.

“What happened inside” she demanded, her voice cutting through the dying engine roar. He rasped that someone had copied her access code while Hale snapped that the man was confused.

The 0200 Betrayal

The lieutenant hurled a cracked tablet onto the concrete, its screen blazing with damning security footage. It showed Admiral Hale slipping silently into a restricted vault at 0200 that very morning.

Sarah stared hard at the admiral, reminding him he had claimed to be in Washington overnight. He dropped his gaze in the cold morning light and whispered that he was supposed to be there.

Laser, Gunfire, Shock

A lethal green laser dot suddenly bloomed on the lieutenant’s chest in the bright sun. Sarah screamed a warning and dragged Hale behind the sedan as a shot shattered the window.

Then the forgotten tablet flickered back to life on the blood-stained concrete below. Sarah’s own face suddenly filled its glowing screen, freezing every witness in stunned disbelief.
