An Ordinary Evening Walk
The late sun washes the city sidewalk in warm gold as Victoria, a 38-year-old elegant blonde woman in a beige belted coat, walks alone past brick buildings and bare trees.
It is a calm, routine moment on a quiet avenue.
That routine is broken when a small figure hurries up from behind. Lily, an 8-year-old girl with shoulder-length brown hair, a worn olive jacket and jeans, runs to catch up to her, calling out with urgency.

"Excuse Me, Wait!"
"Excuse me, wait! Is your name Victoria?" the girl asks as she steps in front of the woman. Victoria stops in her tracks, surprised by the direct question from a child she has never met.
"Yes. How do you know my name?" Victoria replies, turning to look down at Lily. The two face each other on the empty sidewalk as the streetlights begin to glow behind them.

There Were Only Two
Lily answers not with words at first, but by pulling at her collar. Beneath her shirt she reveals a large hexagonal emerald pendant on a gold chain, glowing green in the sunset light.
Victoria leans in and her expression shifts instantly from curiosity to shock. Staring at the jewel, identical to the one she herself wears, she whispers, "There were only two of these made..."
