An Injured Man Walks In
It was supposed to be a normal shift at the sunlit cafe. Waitress Maria was at the counter with a pot of coffee in her hands when she turned and froze.
Leaning against the railing by the window was a man covered in wounds, barely able to stay on his feet.
His face was marked and bruised, one eye swollen shut, his hand pressed to his chest as if trying to hold himself together. "Hey, can you hear me? Are you okay?"
Maria asked, rushing toward him. He tried to push himself up, then winced in pain and clutched his arm. "I'm fine," he answered in a weakened voice.

It was clear to her that he was hiding how serious it really was.
She Refused to Look Away
"No, you're not okay. I'm going to get help," Maria told him firmly. She refused to leave the injured stranger, identified as Radu, alone in that state.
That was when manager Andrei stepped in behind her, his expression cold as he looked from Radu to Maria.
Standing in the doorway, Andrei pointed his finger and confronted them in a severe tone. "What are you doing there? It's not your business. We have customers and we're busy!"
Maria stood her ground. "He's hurt. We have to call someone." Andrei's look hardened instantly. "Then you're fired!" Maria was left speechless. "Are you serious?" she asked. He gave no further answer. For him, the decision was already made.

The Phone Call That Changed Everything
While Maria was still trying to process what had just happened, Radu reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
He stared at the screen for a few seconds, his tattooed hands steady despite his injuries, and then began to dial a number.
Maria watched, confused. Until that moment, he had seemed like only a wounded customer in need of help. But the second the call connected, his whole expression changed — focused, serious, no longer helpless.
Who was the person he was about to call, and why could that one call change the entire situation in the cafe?
