A Quiet Afternoon Turns Urgent
It was a bright, sunny day on the stone patio of an outdoor cafe, with black iron railings and flower boxes lining the edge.
In a matter of seconds, the calm afternoon turned into an emergency when a man collapsed to the ground near the railing.
The waitress, Sarah, a 28-year-old in a white button-up shirt and black apron with her hair in a neat bun, rushed outside and dropped to her knees beside him.
The man, Ray, a 40-year-old in a black leather vest over a white t-shirt with visible arm tattoos, was sitting on the pavement clutching his chest and gasping for air, a dark bruise visible around his eye.

"Hey, Can You Hear Me?"
Sarah leaned in close, her hand on his arm, her face full of worry. "Hey, can you hear me? Are you okay?" she asked quickly, trying to keep him conscious as he struggled to breathe.
Ray could barely get the words out. "I'm fine..." he wheezed, raising a shaky hand as if to wave her off. When Sarah insisted she was going to get help, he whispered weakly, "No, don't..."
But she would not back down. "I'm getting help!" she said firmly, refusing to leave him on the ground.

"Then You're Fired!"
That is when the manager, Mark, a 45-year-old man in a light blue dress shirt and black trousers, stepped out through the cafe doorway.
Towering over the two people on the ground, his expression hard and stern, he pointed his finger directly down at Sarah.
Instead of offering assistance, he issued an ultimatum in a loud, angry shout: "Then you're fired!"
Sarah looked up at him from her kneeling position while Ray stared up from the pavement, leaving a moment of tense silence hanging over the sunny patio as compassion collided with authority.
